ADULT: Wingspan - 27 - 35mm. A buff coloured moth with 3 white cross-lines across the width of the forewings. At the tip of the forewing is a rich chocolate brown blotch that stops at the outermost cross-line. The front of the thorax is dark brown. The dark tipped tail extends beyond the wings. CHRYSALIS: Overwinters as a pupa which is located in between leaves of foodplant. LARVA: Feeds on aspens, poplars and willows. BEHAVIOUR: Attracted to light. HABITAT: Found generally in wooded areas. FLIGHT PERIOD: 2 generations - April to May and again on July to August. STATUS: Local throughout Southern Britain and parts of Scotland. |
